The basis of the collection are the ethnographic items collected in the 1920s, 1930s and 1960s. The collection continually accumulated with good-quality items related to farming livelihoods and living.
The log-floating associations of the Oulujoki River and Iijoki River have donated items relating to log-floating and logging work in the 1980s and 1990s. Turkansaari’s picture collection includes photographs, negatives and slides.
Museum buildings are also museum items. The area includes 44 museum buildings.
